The Mayer Unit isn’t much of a Genesis fan — at least, not until the period after that arty shithead Peter Gabriel fucked off and a little Chiswick man with a big, round, silly head stumbled from behind the skins to front the group.
Here are the top five Phil Collins songs… scientifically speaking:
1. MP3: Phil Collins - “Roof Is Leaking” (from Face Value, 1981. Also a genuinely beautiful song).
2. MP3: Phil Collins - “In The Air Tonight” (from Face Value, 1981. In 2004, the bit where the drums kick in was justifiably named the ‘coolest song moment‘).
3. MP3: Phil Collins - “Sussudio” (from No Jacket Required, 1985. According to the Mayer Unit, it’s the best track to play in the background while rooting a prostitute — assuming you’re in the mood for a top-notch film reference. If you’re looking for escort love sans Bateman homage, your best bet is Enter Sandman).
4. MP3: Genesis - “Turn It On Again” (from Duke, 1980. The third best song ever to deal with the perversive effects of a television culture, and the second best song to alternate between 6/4 and 7/4 time).
5. MP3: Phil Collins - “You Can’t Hurry Love” (from Hello, I Must Be Going, 1982).
Technical note: for scientific reasons, the Stanford boffins couldn’t enter Another Day In Paradise into the Mayer Unit. Our projections show it would have ranked as the fourth best Phil Collins song.
