While watching nine odd hours of NBA All-Star Weekend last week (I might still be drunk), I constantly saw Harry Connick Jr, whether hitting the ebony and ivory for a good old jam, introducing craggy music legends, or relaxing on the sidelines.
His presence was not surprising, of course — he’s a Norleans guy, and I’m sure an absolute roundball freak. Seeing his foppish hair, oddly handsome countenance, and keen piano abilities reminded me just how much I like the man. The things Connick has done that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed: playing straight man to the cheeky gays and sassy women on Will & Grace, being a creepy bastard in Copycat, all of the She record. And here are the things he’s done I haven’t enjoyed: nothing.
In case you’re wondering if you like Harry too, this mid-90s classic should make the decision for you:
MP3: Harry Connick Jr. - “(I Could Only) Whisper Your Name” (from She, 1994).
Bonus, the Arthur Hamilton classic: MP3: Harry Connick Jr. - “Cry Me A River” (from Come By Me, 1999).

He’s so pretty.
The video for (I Could Only) Whisper Your Name was a tie-in for The Mask, that Jim Carrey movie. I loved The Mask so got ‘She’ on tape for that one song. I loved that tape so much.
He looks really old and gross in that picture. But I still love him ’cause he’s a hometown boy.
